The truth is I keep going all day, ploughing through tasks until 7pm (although I still have to give my daughter her medication, change her nappy etc at around 9pm).? I do stop occasionally, I often take 15 minutes out at around 5pm when I?m usually seriously flagging.
Anyway here are The Rules, and here are my answers?.
First (very important)
Second? the main event: How and when do you find the time to?.
Do the laundry:
With doing the laundry for 8 I find as long as I put at least 1 big?load on a day I keep on top of it, miss a day at my peril ! The one thing that I do loathe though is emptying the dryer folding everything and then taking it upstairs. I am always saying to everyone in my house that if there is laundry on the back of a chair or folded on the kitchen table and they?re on their way upstairs to use the bathroom etc to PLEASE take a load up with them. Even if they only put it in their bedroom and I will put away later. Do they do this however ?, VERY rarely, sometimes if they?re upstairs I will call them down and pass it over the stairgate to them, other times like tonight I just silently get on with it, I took it up myself and put it away myself. I very much doubt sometimes anyone even notices. Sometimes I huff loudly as I do this, for all the difference it makes lol.
Write a blog post:
This isn?t to difficult, belive it or not, always surprises everyone when I say this lol. I spend usually around 3 evenings a week doing a bit of charity admin, home admin & catching up on a few email replies, ordering medication, looking at the latest disability news & products (it pays to keep on the ball with this stuff) & catching up on some blog reading, I often tie beginning a post in with this time. I often do half a blog one day, save it to drafts and finish it of later the next time I have 10 minutes peace. I usually have 2 or 3 post?s half done in my drafts box, not always of course but ?topic? posts I tend to. If it?s a post about my week however I?ll roll that of easy in about 30 mins or so. Most of the time I?d rather blog than watch tv unless there?s something that really interests me on
Look after yourself :
Lately I?ve not been so great at this. I have cut my exercising?down to 3 nights a week so I have more time for admin. I wash my hair every other day rather than every day. I have found blow drying it with a babyliss?big hair now cuts my drying time down to exactly 12 minutes and it will hold it?s style for a good 48 hours quite well. I never get time for a shower in the mornings so I always do this at 7pm when the youngest ones have gone to bed, which annoys me because it takes yet more time out of my evenings (some day?s I don?t get in to the bath/shower til10pm). I do get my make up on every morning in a very haphazard way, my 17 month old running of with my mascara, my 4yr?old begging for a teeny tiny bit of lipgloss ! I wish I looked nice with out make up, if that was so I?d happily go with out, unfortunately I look a bit ill with out it I only now do my nails on special occasions.
Spend time with your other half?:
HHmmm, we live in the same house, does that count ? lol, some people really think it does, I don?t really. We are VERY lucky, my Mum helps out a lot, and Graham?s?family will help out to if we want a night out, or the occasional weekend away for a special occasion. So we get the odd date night here & there & the odd bit of time out together with out the kids. More than some couples I know and some people get very envious. What?people often?don?t understand is what life is like caring for 2 children with disabilities (one very severely so) and that unlike most children at least 1 of ours will never ?grow up? in the way other children do and move out or become independent etc. We?ll never be able to leave the house with out Paige & Owen unless they have a sitter, even if they?re 30. We do make the effort to watch programmes we both enjoy together (that we?ve recorded), a lot of the time by the time we sit down to watch them though often one if not both of us will fall asleep.
Do fun stuff with your Little Ones:
This is fairly easy for me given that I?m a SAHM, I find it much easier when the sun is shinning though and I can get in the garden with them. I will admit I am not an Earth mother type who spends all day baking and doing arts and crafts with them etc. But there are lots?of ways to enjoy fun times with your children, running around the house playing boo with them, playing pretend, singing silly songs with them, if laughter is involved, that?s?what counts as fun for me. Of course I do do the odd bit of baking and crafting with them too but not every week. Also because I have A LOT of children they often play with each other rather than always wanting me to play, they make it known when they want me to join in and it?s evident when they don?t
Spend time with your family:
95% of my time is family time. I?m almost always at home with my family, my Mum & stepdad?are my only close relations that lives near by and as?my mum?works as a part-time?carer for my daughter I see here everyday except weekends (although i?see her some weekends too). We see Graham?s?family (who are an hour away) as and when we can. The rest of my family all live 400 miles away, if I?m lucky I see them once a year, i miss them
Socialise with friends:
I don?t socialize?as such. I have 2 good friends that live near by. I do see 1 of them 3 nights a week to work out with & about once every 8/10 weeks we will have a wine and supper night together. We both lead busy lives so this suits us. My other friend I see about once every 2/3 months for a quick coffee at my house and a catch up. Again this suits us both with our lives being so busy. My old friends all live 40o miles away like most of my family so I miss them too.
Prepare an evening meal juggling a baby/toddler bedtime routine?
I always put the kids tea on as soon as they?re home from school and they sit together at the table and eat while I wash up and clean up around them. Then it?s emptying lunchbag?time, checking book bags for letters etc and reading time, where they take it in turns to read to me, then it?s usually bathtime?for at least 2 or 3 of them. 7pm is the baby and toddlers bedtime, 8pm is the boys bedtime (a little later at weekends) and 8.45pm is the teenagers bedtime (because by the time she actually stops faffing?and gets in to bed it?s about 20 past 9). Me or Graham will start preparing our evening meal usually around 7/7.30pm just after one of us has put the littlest ones to bed. Thats if we?re eating together & he?s not out at the gym or I?m getting ready to do my workout. We usually manage to eat about 3 nights a week together & we always eat together as a family at weekends, we always have a Sunday roast together too.
Deep clean your house ?
I genuinely don?t but I REALLY wish I could. I don?t have a filthy house though, I clean as I go. Tomorrow morning while washing my hair before the kids get up (if I?m lucky) ?I will spray bathroom cleaner in the sink and around, then when my hairs washed I?ll give the sink a scrub and the floor a quick go over. I do bits here and there throughout?the day. I do wish I had a full day to sort through wardrobes that kind of thing but on the rare occasions i do get a free slot it?s usually filled up with a meeting or an appointment. It?s impossible to be upstairs during the day for any length of time with a toddler, baby and disabled teen in the house, some day?s I get so desperate to go for a wee that I end up getting kidney pain.
Do the food shopping ?
These day?s I do it online and have it delivered and then pick up bits from the shop we live near if we run out of something or there?s something?I?ve forgotten (which happens usually as soon as my husband gets home, inspects the cupboards and asks ?did you order?..? I probably didn?t lol).
Do bulk ironing ?
I don?t, ever !. Most of the stuff I think is fine just folded straight out of the dryer. Once a week I?ll iron a couple of my husbands shirts and I always iron the school uniforms, but that?s it for ironing. I argue that once you?ve sat down in something for 10 mins it makes having ironed said item a waste of time anyway..well that?s what I say and I?m sticking to it
This all accounts for much of how I spend my time, I do pop down the allotment for an hour here and there too, doing this has made me see my life must look pretty hectic from the outside, as long as I have a bit of stamina though it?s not that bad. Sometimes it all catches up on me and I get to tired, mostly though thankfully I keep going and sleep well, VERY well
I?d like to tag http://expatbabyadventures.com?? , http://www.allotmentmum.co.uk? , and http://mumofalltrades.blogspot.co.uk? if any of them would like to take part then that would be fab
