What would happen if two of your favorite rom-com stars -- Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Reynolds, in this case -- decided to star in a non-rom-com? "Big Eyes," apparently, a new Tim Burton-produced biopic about a pair of dysfunctionally married artists.
Witherspoon and Reynolds are eying the lead in Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski's ("Man on the Moon") artworld picture, about Margaret and Walter Keane, artists of the popular wide-eyed portraits.
Though their art was all the rage of the fifties and sixties, the Keanes did not have the best working relationship. Walter stole his wife's credit, soaking up all the recognition and fame.
"We are ecstatic to have this dream cast for our dream project," Alexander and Karaszewski said in a joint statement. "Walter is a larger-than-life antihero -- charming, funny, dangerous, and a little crazy. Ryan will knock it out of the park. As for Reese, she will be perfect as Margaret -- soulful, decent, transforming from vulnerability to learning to fight for herself."
With wide-eyed, slightly unnerving art, Burton obviously couldn't have been far behind -- he will produce "Big Eyes" through Tim Burton Productions.
Before the they enter the world of arthouse biopics, the two will next star in their respective box offices releases -- Reynolds in the action-thriller "Safe House" and Witherspoon in the love triangle comedy "This Means War;" both are out next month.
